What paint should I use to paint the floor and handrail of a new terrace made of pressure-impregnated timber?
With new pressure-impregnated timber, we recommend a drying period of approx. 6 months to ensure that enough of the salt impregnating agent evaporates before the finish is applied. The moisture content must be less than 20%. If the timber has been impregnated this summer, it is not advisable to treat it before next summer.

The wooden floor can be treated with Valtti Wood Oil or Valtti Wood Oil Akva to protect the surface against dirt, moisture, and cracking. Alternatively, it can be painted with tintable wood preservatives such as Valtti Akvacolor or Valtti Color. Because of the action of water on horizontal outdoor surfaces, we do not recommend products that form a coat on the wooden floor. Paints and coat-forming wood preservatives also make the floor slippery.

Please remember that the final colour of translucent wood preservative is greatly affected by the original colour of the pressure-impregnated timber. Wood oils can be tinted green.

Products suitable for the handrails include opaque waterborne Valtti Opaque wood preservative and solvent-based ValttiTeho Wood Finish.
