| Base paints | RPA and RPC | |
| Colour Range | Tikkurila Colour Card for Exterior Paints and Facade Colour Card | |
| Gloss grade | Full-matt | |
| Coverage | 0.6-0.8m²/ l. Coverage is determined by the roughness and porosity of the surface, the painting method and painting conditions. | |
| Can sizes | 9 l | |
| Thinner | Water | |
| Mixing ratio | If necessary thin up to 1% with water. | |
| Application method | Steel trowel; for spray application, use plaster pump, min. nozzle size 5 mm. Finish with Tikkurila plastic float. | |
| Drying time at 23°C and 50% relative air humidity | Re-coatable after 24 hours. | |
| Water vapour resistance (EN ISO 7783-2) | Sd, H2O < 0.5 m. |
|
| Water permeability (EN 1062-3) | w24 < 0.1 kgm-2h-0.5 |
|
| Adhesion | > 0,8 N/mm2 . |
|
| Particle/grain size | Minimum grain size approx. 2 mm. |
|
| Weather resistance | Good, even in industrial and maritime atmospheres. Prevents penetration of rain and splashes into the construction (water repellent) and, at the same time, allows passage of water from inside as vapour (good water vapour permeability). | |

| APPLICATION DETAILS | ||
| Application conditions | The surface to be treated must be dry, the temperature of the air at least +5˚ C and the relative humidity of the air below 80 %. Do not apply paint under strong sunlight. | |
| Preparation | Screeded surface of concrete blocks:
Remove dirt, loose material and salts from the surface. Remove mechanically and patch holes and cracks with Yki levelling and finishing mortar 2-3 days before finishing by using the minimum water amount indicated on the label. Overcoat the surface with Yki levelling and finishing mortar. Unpainted concrete surfaces and concrete socles overcoated with finishing mortar New surfaces must be dry and hard enough before finishing. Remove dirt, salt and other loose particles from unpainted concrete surfaces. Surfaces cast using formwork must be mechanically processed to create sufficient texture and remove glass-like, glossy hard hydrated cement. Similarly, the cement paste on cast surfaces must be removed by mechanical steel brushing, sand-blasting or high pressure washing with addition of sand. Cure the uneven surfaces by levelling course (e.g. board-cast surfaces) with Yki levelling and finishing mortar. Previously painted concrete surfaces: Remove flaking, poorly attached paint coats from previously painted surfaces (by steel brushing, high pressure washing with hot water or water-sand-blasting). Open possible cracks in concrete constructions by pick-dressing, with an edge grinder and bobbing. Clean rust from the reinforcement bars and continue the treatment using a suitable Finnseco repair mortar. For sand-blasted, very porous concrete surfaces or uneven substrates we recommend treatment with Yki levelling and finishing mortar. Applicable national health and safety precautions must be followed in the pre-treatment and coating of substrates containing asbestos. Sand un-even surfaces before application. Remove sanding dust. |
|
| Priming | If necessary, prime surface with Yki Primer or Kivisil Primer to reduce bleeding of the salts. | |
| Coating | Stir Yki Rough Coating well before use. Prepare enough paint from the same batch for one complete, uniform surface to avoid possible colour differences. However, if you have to use paint from various batches, paint overlapping areas with a mixture of new and old batches (e.g. 1:1).
Use a steel trowel to apply a layer as thick as the grain size of the coating treating approx. 1 m² area at a time. Rub the surface immediately (max. 15 min) pressing lightly with Tikkurila plastic float. Plan work carefully e.g. by determining the location of working joints in advance. Clean paint splashes immediately from windows or protect the windows before priming and coating. |
|
| Cleaning of tools | Clean tools with water. To remove hardened paint, Tikkurila Pensselipesu (Tikkurila Tool Brush) is recommended. | |
| Maintenance instructions | Ultimate durability and hardness is reached in approx. a moth under normal circumstances. If cleansing is needed, use lightly a pressure cleaner without detergent. The cleansing can cause permanent marks on the surface. Plan work carefully e.g. by determining the location of working joints in advance.
Clean dry, loose dirt softly with a brush without rubbing the surface. To remove mould or algae apply Tikkurila Mould Removal and rinse well. NB Always overcoat the surface after mould removal. |
|
| Maintenance treatment | Yki Paint for Socles is suitable for maintenance painting. Possible crack can be repaired with Yki levelling and finishing mortar and coated with Yki Rough Coating to the surrounding level. | |
| EU VOC 2004/42/EC-limit value | (Cat A/c) 75g/l(2007) / 40g/l(2010) Yki Rough Coating contains VOC max. 75g/l. | |
