APPLICATION DETAILS
Application conditions The surface to be treated must be dry, the temperature of the air at least +5˚ C and the relative humidity of the air below 80 %.
Preparation Unpainted concrete socles and screeded surfaces of socles:
New surfaces must be dry and hard enough before finishing. Concrete surfaces are recommended to be painted at the earliest after one heating season. Drying and hardening times depend on e.g. the composition of the rendering surface (e.g. lime-concrete-ratio), conditions and thickness of the layer. Wash down unpainted socles to remove dirt, salts and other loose particles. Wash mildewed, moss-covered surfaces from bottom upwards with Tikkurila Mould Removal according to instructions. Surfaces cast using formwork must be mechanically processed (e.g. sand-blasted) to create sufficient texture and remove glass-like, glossy hydrated cement. Similarly, the cement paste on cast surfaces must be removed by sand-blasting, grinding stone or high pressure washing with the addition of sand. Level uneven and block surfaces with e.g.
Yki Reparation Mortar according to instructions.

Previously painted socles:
Clean surfaces from dirt, dust and salts. Wash mildewed, moss-covered surfaces from bottom upwards with Tikkurila Mould Removal according to instructions. Remove flaking, poorly attached or powdery paint coats from previously painted surfaces. Select the method according to the strength of the substrate and paint type (e.g. steel brushing, high pressure washing with hot water or water-sand-blasting). Remove also poorly attached fragile plaster and concrete surfaces. Open possible cracks in concrete constructions by pick-dressing, or with an edge grinder and bobbing. Clean rust from the reinforcement bars and continue the treatment using a suitable Finnseco repair mortar. Level the surfaces with e.g. Yki Reparation Mortar according to instructions.

Applicable national health and safety precautions must be followed in pre-treatment and coating of substrates containing asbestos.
Priming The substrate is recommended to be primed with Tikkurila Silicone Primer e.g. to reduce the discoloration based on salts.
Diluting Thinning: 0-10 vol-%.
Painting Prepare enough paint from the same batch for one complete uniform surface to avoid possible colour differences. However, if you have to use paint from various batches, paint the overlapping area with a mixture of new and old batches (e.g. 1:1).
Stir Yki well before use and thin with water if necessary. Apply by brush or roller 1-2 times. When rough surfaces are coated twice, thin for priming with about 20 % water and finish with un-thinned paint.
Cleaning of tools Clean tools with water. To remove hardened paint, Tikkurila Pensselipesu (Tool Cleaner) is recommended.
Maintenance instructions Dirty surface painted with Yki Paint for Socles can be cleansed lightly using a pressure cleaner without detergent after one month from the painting at the earliest. The cleansing can cause permanent marks on the surface. Plan work carefully e.g. by determining the location of working joints in advance. Clean dry, loose dirt softly with a brush without rubbing the surface.
To remove mould or algae apply Tikkurila Mould Removal and rinse well.
NB. Always finish the surface again after mould removal.
Maintenance treatment Surface treated with Yki Paint for Socles can be maintenanced with the same paint or with Yki Rough Coating, see Preparation, Priming and Painting.
