APPLICATION DETAILS
Application conditions The surface to be painted has to be clean and solid. The temperature of the air, paint and substrate should be at least +5C. During hot and windy weather moisten the surface before and after painting. Do not paint during rain or when rain is expected or under direct sun light. When painting indoors it is recommended to fall the temperature of the room under +20oC.
Preparation Remove dirt, dust and salts. Loose dirt is recommended to be removed dry with a soft brush without abrasion. Mouldy and mossy surfaces are washed from below upwards with Tikkurila Mould Removal according to instructions. The surface to be treated has to be undamaged, clean and free from any organic paints. Mortars with a high cement content are not suitable as a substrate for lime paint. Remove loose lime paint layers with a steel brush (soft bristles of stainless steel or brass) or with high pressure washing so that the surface will not be damaged. Possible repairs are to be made using a mortar with a similar composition than the surrounding areas (including coarseness and level).

Note! Windows, metal and natural stone surfaces etc. are to be protected carefully for the duration of the treatment.
Painting Mix the supplied lime paint at site in clean water using the following mixing ratio:
- 12.5 kg Holvi Lime Paint and 8 L of water
- 25 kg Holvi Lime Paint and 16 L of water

Do not use unthinned Holvi Lime Paint. To avoid any color differences use the same ratio throughout the application. Stir the paint at regular intervals to prevent the heavier aggregate from settling on the bottom on the container.

Before application wet the surface thoroughly with clean water. The substrate has to be evenly moist but still absorbing.

Apply the lime paint using a lime brush or a lime stippling roller brush. Apply 2-3 coats. The next application may be done the following day at the earliest. Wet the surface evenly with care before and after every coat. Wet the surface after last coat, too.

To avoid color differences prepare a sufficient amount of paint for each complete surface area. If however, you have to use another batch of paint, paint the boundary areas using a mixture of the old and new batch (1:1). Try to place the boundary area in a non-conspicuous location. Always apply the paint on one uniform surface without breaks to achieve a uniform end result. Avoid touching up afterwards in order to achieve a uniform end result. The best way to even out colour differences is to stipple lightly with the brush.

The colour of HOLVI Lime Paint depends on moisture and porosity of the surface. Wetting afterwards will darken the colour.
Mechanical stress may cause lighter marks especially on darker colours. This is a typical feature in all matt façade paints, which has no effect on the technical functionality of the product. With lime painting you get a living surface in which the handwork can be seen.
Cleaning of tools Clean tools immediately after use with water or a weak vinegar-water solution (and rinse with clean water).
Maintenance instructions Dirty surfaces can be carefully washed with a pressure washer without any cleaning agent, at the earliest one month after the treatment. The washing may leave a permanent mark on the surface, so the area to be washed should follow the construction lines. Loose dirt is recommended to be cleaned when dry using a soft brush, avoiding abrasion.
Algae and mould can be removed with Tikkurila Mould Removal and thorough rinsing as instructed. NOTE: The surface always requires a new coating treatment after mould removal.
Maintenance treatment If the surface was previously painted with Holvi Lime paint suitable paints for maintenance painting are Holvi Lime paint or Finngard Lime Paint.
