Yki Aitokivi - Real Stone

DESCRIPTION Waterborne stone coating. Max grain size approx. 1.5 mm.
PRODUCT FEATURES For concrete fixtures, boards and concrete and block surfaces leveled with cement reinforced mortar.
RECOMMENDED USES Residential, commercial, industrial and warehouse buildings.

The colours of the Yki Aitokivi Real Stone colour card can be tinted from KPA and KPC base paints.
Gloss grade Matt
Coverage 2.5 -3.5 kg/m² when applied once with a trowel and 3.5-4.5 kg/m² when appliced twice or when sprayed.  

0,6 -0,8 m²/l applied once with a trowel and  0,4 - 0,5 m²/l when sprayed and applied twice.  The coverage is affected by the coarseness and porosity of the treated surface. 
Can sizes 14 kg (10 l can).
Thinner Water
Application method Trowel spreading by hand, spraying with a plaster pump, minimum nozzle size 7 mm, or with a funnel sprayer. The coating is finished by pulling a steel trowel gently alongside the surface.
Drying time at 23°C and 50% relative air humidity

Touch-dry the following day.

Storage Protect from frost. Temperature of the product or can may not exceed +35 °C. Not to be stored in sunlight even under a cover. A tinted coating or a coating in a poorly closed or incomplete can does not sustain long-term storage.

APPLICATION DETAILS
Application conditions The surface to be painted must be dry, the temperature of air must be at least +5 °C and the relative humidity of air below 80 %. The coating must not be done in strong sunlight.
Priming Priming of socle:
The substrate is recommended to be primed with Tikkurila Silicone Primer to avoid the breakthrough of e.g. salts. Prime the substrate with Yki Socle Paint with a colour matching the stone coating. The colour of the substrate affects the final colour.

Priming of wall:
Prime the wall with either Yki Socle Paint or with a solution of Tikkurila Primer Gel and Kivisil Facade Paint. The priming paint is always tinted to the same colour with the stone coating.
Coating Stir Yki Real Stone thoroughly before use. Thin with water max. 1 %, if necessary.

Application by steel trowel:
Apply by steel trowel a smooth coat of approx. 2 mm at a time to an area of approx.1-2 m² . Smooth the coating by sloping the trowel lightly over the surface. Check that the stones are spread abundantly and closely. Adjust limits of pauses and borders of various cans to an unobtrusive spot.

Application by steel trowel and grinding:
On large uniform wall surfaces a jointless surface is easiest to make by applying the product twice. Apply by steel trowel a smooth coat to an area of approx.1-2 m² . Smooth the coating by sloping the trowel lightly over the surface. After the first coat has dried, apply the second coat of Yki Aitokivi thinly. Grind the surface immediately (max. after 15 min.) by pressing lightly with Tikkurila plastic float. If the float does not move lightly, there is too much of coating. Remove the excess coating with a steel trowel.

Application by spraying e.g. with a plaster pump or a funnel sprayer:
Apply by spraying with a low pressure from approx. 1 m distance in a circular motion upright with the surface. Smooth the coating by sloping the trowel lightly over the surface. Spray the second layer over the dried coating sparsely. Uniform surfaces are sprayed without interruption.

Note! Mix Yki Aitokivi thoroughly before use. The colour of natural stones can vary depending on quarried stone lot. If different batches are used, coat the boundary with a solution of 1 part of old batch and 1 part of new batch. Adjust limits of pauses and borders of various cans to an unobtrusive spot.
Protect windows before priming and coating. Clean possible splashes immediately from the windows.
Yki Aitokivi is not suitable for coating of horizontal surfaces of e.g. cold retaining walls or other similar horizontal surfaces.

Cleaning of tools Clean tools with water. Tikkurila Pensselipesu is recommended for the removal of hardened paint.
Maintenance instructions Dirty surface can be pressure cleaned carefully without detergent after one month from treatment at the earliest. Cleaning might leave an imprint, thus the washing area must be lined unnoticeably according to the lines of the structure. Loose dry dirt is recommended to remove lightly with a soft brush without rubbing.
Homeenpoisto Mould Removal and thorough rinsing can be used for the removal of alga and mould according to the instructions. NOTE! After mould removal the surface always requires a new treatment.
Maintenance treatment Yki Aitokivi is suitable for the maintenance treatment of Yki Aitokivi and Yki Socle Paint is suitable for repainting, see Pretreatment, Priming and Coating.
