APPLICATION DETAILS
Application conditions All surfaces to be painted must be dry, the moisture content of the wood below 20 %, the temperature of the air at least +5 °C, and the relative humidity of the air below 80 % during painting work and drying.
Finishing must be done before evening dew. The paint film must be dry, because humidity will turn the fresh surface matt.
Preparation Unpainted surface
Remove all dirt, dust, wax, rust and loose wooden material.
The surface must be clean and dry (maximum wood moisture 16%). Wood has to be cleaned from dirt, oil and grease before application of the paint. Old paint has to be brushed off or sanded, parts exposed to moisture, e.g. frontal areas and joining, have to be pretreated with TIKKURILA Valtti Base+. Coat buildup for raw wood
1x coat woodprimer (TIKKURILA Valtti Base+)Use recommended Tikkurila fillers for filling cracks, nail holes, blemishes, etc.

Previously painted surface
Remove loose paint with a scraper and brush the surface with steel brush. Wash down surfaces affected by mould with Mould Removal (Homeenpoisto) or Super Clean solution according to instructions. Prime bare wood always with Valtti Base.

Note: Discoloration of paint especially noticeable within light colours may occur over knots and resinous areas present in the wood. Particular attention with regards to preparation should be given to wood such as Oak, Teak, Cedar, Douglas Fir, Mahogany and Idigbo, etc., which contain oil and water-soluble tannin which may impair the drying, hardening or adhesion of surface coatings and discolour the finished surface.
Painting 2-3 x coats with TIKKURILA Valtti Teho
The coats have to be applied one after the other without any waiting times, if the wood is exposed to weathering in order to achieve optimal protection against UV-rays.
Cleaning of tools Clean immediately after use with white spirit 1050 or with Tikkurila Pensselipesu (Tool Cleaner)
Maintenance treatment Depending on exposure and elevation, one coat of Valtti Teho is normally sufficient after 5 years.
