APPLICATION DETAILS
Application conditions The surface should be dry and at least 4 weeks old and the relative humidity of the concrete less than 97 %. During painting and drying, the temperature of the air, surface and paint should be at least 10ºC, and the relative humidity of the air below 80 %.
Preparation New concrete surfaces:
Remove the laitance layer from new concrete surfaces by surface sanding or by hydrochloric acid pickling. Remove laitance dust carefully after sanding by vacuum cleaner or brush. Do the pickling with thinned hydrochloric acid solution (1 part concentrated hydrochloric acid, 4 parts water). Rinse carefully with water and dry the floor.

Old concrete floors:
Remove dust and loose material from the floor. Grease, oil, chemicals or other impurities have to be removed by e.g. synthetic Cleaning Agent (Maalipesu) cleaner, sanding or blast-cleaning. Choose the cleaning method depending on the premises in question.
Remove old, peeling paint. Roughen old paint surfaces by sanding. Clean cracks, holes and hollows. Open cracks with e.g. edge grinder. Remove loose material and dust. Fill cracks, opened hollows and holes with e.g. a cement based filler or with an epoxy filler. Sand the filled spots to the same level as the surrounding surface.
Painting Mix both the plastic part and the hardener separately before combining them. Add the plastic part to the pigmented hardener and mix with care, using a paint mixer attached to a power drill. Use a slow rotation speed. Mix at least for 3-5 minutes. Careless mixing or an incorrect mixing ratio may cause uneven hardening, weaken the surface quality and putting the work at risk.

Prime with Akvacoat diluted 5-15 % with water. The thinner is always added into the ready compound and mixed carefully.

Finishing can be done at least 16 hours after priming. The finishing paint can be diluted with
5 % water maximum. Apply by brush, roller or spatula.
Treatment Non-Slip treatment:

Improve grip on painted surfaces by adding Non-Slip Agent to Akvacoat Epoxy Paint. Begin by applying the first coat normally according to instructions. When it is dry enough to withstand walking (within 24 hrs), apply a non-slip coating as follows: Dilute Akvacoat Epoxy Paint with 20 vol% Epoxy thinner 1074. Mix thoroughly with a paint blender and electric drill. Add 1 can (0.3 l) of Non-Slip powder to 10 litres Akvacoat Epoxy Paint.
Mix thoroughly with a paint blender and power drill. With a short-pile roller, apply the “non-slip paint” to the entire floor area or parts of it marked off with tape. If the non-slip treatment appears insufficient, improve it by applying a new coat after 2 hours drying time. The open time of diluted Akvacoat Epoxy Paint is clearly longer than that shown in the instructions, but the drying time is the same for both diluted and undiluted Akvacoat Epoxy Paint. Note that during application, thick coats of paint will not dry properly, but will instead remain in a jelly-like form.
Cleaning of tools Clean tools with water and synthetic cleaning agent. Tikkurila Pensselipesu (Tool Cleaner) is recommended to be used for cleaning a bit hardened paint from tools.
Maintenance instructions The painted surface will achieve its final durability and chemical resistance after 2 weeks. Avoid cleaning during this time. Clean the surface with a brush, mop or cloth. Very dirty surfaces can be cleaned with cleaning equipment moistened with neutral (pH 6-8) detergent.
EU VOC 2004/42/EC-limit value Cat A/j) 140g/l(2010).
Akvacoat contains VOC max. 140 g/l.
