Temacoat is a product family with high-solids epoxy paints. Using them can reduce costs and solvent emissions. The painted surface is recoatable for a very long time without roughening, up to six months if recoating will be done with epoxy paints. The Finnish Steel Construction Award (Vuoden Teräsrakenne) winner in 2011 is the theatre, opera and concert hall Kilden in Kristianstad, Norway. The impressive building is a fantastic example of Finnish architecture and competence in steel structure construction. The award was given to Arkkitehtitoimisto ALA Oy, Ruukki Construction Oy and Norwegian constructors, the main contractor and structural designer.
Crusell Bridge a new landmark in Helsinki 20.07.2012
The construction of the Crusell Bridge, spanning the Ruoholahti channel, was completed in Helsinki last year. The bridge pylons rise 49 metres above sea level, and the bridge has 5.25 metres of sailing height to ensure unimpeded boat traffic. A two-way road runs along this 143-metre-long and 25-metre-wide bridge, bordered by sidewalks for pedestrian and bicycle traffic and bisected by a tramway traffic area.
Tikkurila has started publishing a trend blog as part of its Profe service concept for professionals. The blogger is Doty Horn, a frequent speaker at design industry trade shows and a trend commentator in various media outlets. Horn’s first blog was posted in early March and the second one in June on Tikkurila’s website for professionals at www.tikkurila.fi/thecolorvoyantwatch.
Pinja Color Oil (439 0070) is a water-borne, oil-based translucent wood finish that protects wood from weathering, especially from humidity, sun light and dirt. The product slows downs humidity absorption and reduces the cracking of wood.
Akviwax Satin – for waxing wooden surfaces 05.07.2012
Akviwax Satin (472 6909), containing natural wax, is a water-borne product for indoor wooden surfaces. It is especially suitable for waxing objects in spaces with a high level of humidity such as sauna benches, panelled walls and ceilings as well for doors and window frames.
The steel structures of the winter entertainment complex Snow Arena in Druskininkai, Lithuania were painted with more than 50,000 litres of Tikkurila's coatings. Surface treatment was made with Temacoat RM 40 epoxy paint as a single coat system. Dry film thickness was 200 µm.
This year World Design Capital is Helsinki together with surrounding towns of Kauniainen, Espoo, Vantaa and Lahti. In Vantaa, the theme for the year is everyday design. The city’s exhibition room for World Design Capital Helsinki 2012, the Vantaa Design Window, will showcase projects in Vantaa during the design capital year, as well as developments in everyday lives and living environments made possible by design.
Temasolid SC products are now available in two gloss levels: 60 and 80. These products are particularly suitable for surfaces exposed to stress due to climate conditions and wear and tear, such as construction, excavation and agricultural machinery and other machines and equipment. Due to extremely high solids content, the products can be used cost-efficiently as single-coat paints without a separate primer.

Colours generate a positive sense of the quality of a product. People often go for the one that pleases the eye when choosing between products with the same technical properties. Despite this, industrial production does not yet fully exploit the opportunities provided by shapes and colours for improving products’ competitiveness.
It was the company's impressive track record in supplying water-borne systems in demanding environments that led to Tikkurila AB winning the contract with Apply Emtunga AB to provide a paint solution for a living quarters module on an offshore platform in the Caspian Sea.
Fontemal – heat-resistant paint 18.10.2011
Fontemal contains a silicone-based binding agent, which enables the product to withstand temperatures of up to 500 ºC. The paint is suitable for steel and aluminium surfaces, and for coating cast-iron fireplace doors and sauna stoves in particular. Other applications include ovens, steel flue pipes, and vehicle exhaust pipes.

Tikkurila’s Semi-transparent Wood Finishes Colour Card is now electronically available on our website. While the shades visible on the computer’s display cannot replace genuine colour samples, they are as close as possible to our original colour samples painted on a pine surface.

Many customers have already found the benefits of the new fast curing Temadur SC-F 80. The popularity of this product is based on its versatile technical properties, as it can be used either a single-coat finish for agricultural and earth moving machinery and other equipment, or as a topcoat in epoxy/polyurethane paint systems for surfaces exposed to weathering and chemical stress in storage tank exteriors, steel framework and other steel structures.
Changes in the Safety Data Sheets 09.06.2011
The European Union has adopted a new regulation concerning Safety Data Sheets ((EU) No 453/2010), which brings changes to the format of the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) of our products.
Tikkurila's Temaspray and Fontespray aerosol paints are easy to use for painting of small objects and repairing surfaces that might have been damaged during transportation, installation and usage. Small painting defects are also easy to cover discretely.
Many tourists and football fans will visit Poland to watch the European Football Championship games in 2012, and many of them will travel by train. For ensuring a nice welcome for travellers, the renovation of the Central Railway Station in Warsaw was started in September 2010. According to the schedule, the main hall will be ready by May 2011, the new façade by October and the platforms totally renovated by December.
Early in the year 2011, the results of many years of design cooperation between Tikkurila and the sculptor Antero Toikka were displayed at Galleria Sculptor in Helsinki. In many of the works seen at the exhibition, titled Day and Night, the artist used steel treated with Tikkurila industrial coatings. Tikkurila experts supported him in the selection of products and surface treatment solutions.
The city of Kemi, Finland, brightens its image with art in the public space, visible also to those speeding past the city on the motorway. Tikkurila was involved in an exciting design project to liven up the motorway bridge with a light gate.
Sustainable solutions by painting 17.01.2011
Environmentally compliant products are attracting increasing interest among consumers and industry. In Tikkurila’s paint production, sustainable solutions include reducing the amount of solvents, developing water-borne products and lengthening maintenance intervals.
Tikkurila have high quality non-yellowing and fast drying acid catalysed lacquers. These two component products are suitable for wooden surfaces such as furniture, kitchen cabinets and doors. Drying to sand time is only 20 to 30 minutes in 50°C temperature. In 70°C temperature, drying to sand time is only 15 to 20 minutes.
Tikkurila’s new water-borne products, Akvi Top 30 FD and Akvi Primer MDF, are user-friendly and more environmentally compliant. They are ideal for the surface treatment of doors, panels and mouldings, and other wooden surfaces and boards.
Tikkurila provided surface treatment materials for Finland´s pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo 2010. The Shanghai World Expo ran from 1 May to 31 October 2010. Finland pavilion Kirnu is an architectural masterpiece designed by Helsinki based JKMM Architects, head architect being Teemu Kurkela. The pavilion is inspired by nature and called Kirnu in Finnish, Giant´s Kettle in English. Kirnu attracted 5,7 million visitors during the six months of World EXPO, which is some 8% of the total amount of 72 million visitors to 192 pavilions.
Building of the hull of the luxury cruise ship Celebrity Eclipse, ordered by cruise line Celebrity Cruises, was begun early 2009 at the shipyard of Meyer Werft GmbH in Papenburg, Germany. The vessel was handed over to its owner in July 2010. The interior decoration work of the ship’s main dining room was carried out by the Finnish Merima, using Tikkurila’s MED-approved paint products.
Sweden’s new national stadium, the Swedbank Arena, currently under construction in Stockholm, is the latest achievement in Tikkurila's and Rautaruukki’s twenty year co-operation. The steel structures and roofing elements, supplied by Ruukki, will be painted with Tikkurila products, which are proved to have excellent resistance to challenging weather conditions and heavy wear and tear.

Temacoat SPA Primer is designed as a primer or an intermediate coat for steel structures and equipment. It has a high solid content, which means lower solvent emissions compared to traditional epoxy paints. In addition, this higher solid content improves cost efficiency.
