Superior filling properties

Merit 80 is a full gloss acid-catalyzed lacquer with high solid content. The lacquer has excellent filling properties and finished surfaces look brilliant.

Enhances stained wood appearance

Merit 80 forms very hard film with a good scratch resistance. Solvent-borne Dicco Color and water-borne Akvi Color stains can be applied for colouring the wood before using Merit lacquers. The lacquer nicely enhances stained wood appearance.

Merit 80 is widely used for:

Application method

Air assisted airless and conventional spraying.

Air assisted airless application with the viscosity 18–25 s (DIN 4) can be reached with approximately 15–30 % of thinning. Nozzle tip 0.009"–0.013" and the nozzle pressure 60-160 bar. Atomising air pressure is recommended to be used with pressure 1–3 bar. Spray angle shall be chosen according to the shape of the object.

Conventional application with the viscosity 20-30 s (DIN 4) can be reached with approximately 10–20 % of thinning. Nozzle tip 1.4–1.8 mm is recommended to be used with pressure 2-3 bar.

APPLICATION DETAILS
Application conditions The surface to be treated has to be clean and dry. During application and drying the temperature of the air, the surface to be treated and the lacquer has to be over +18 ºC and the relative humidity of the air below 70 %.
Preparation Wood surfaces should be sanded with sandpaper P150–240. Primer surfaces should be sanded with sandpaper P240–600. All sanding dust must be removed with f.ex.vacuum.
Priming Recommended primers: Merit Sanding, Merit 20, Merit 30, Merit 80, Merit Sealer.
Mixing of components Stir the lacquer carefully before use. Add 10 volume % of Hardener 006 2098. Thin the lacquer to the viscosity required. Do not use iron containers as mixing container. Instead use plastic, enamel or acid resistant steel containers.
Cleaning of tools Thinner 1033 or 1027.
EU VOC 2004/42/EC-limit value The Volatile Organic Compounds amount is 460 g/litre of paint.
VOC content of the paint mixture (thinned 30 % by volume) is 540 g/l.

HEALTH AND SAFETY LABELLING
according to Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008
Containers are provided with safety labels, which should be observed. Further information about hazardous influences and protection are detailed in individual health and safety data sheets. A health and safety data sheet is available on request from Tikkurila Oyj. For industrial use only.

Tikkurila offers wide range of paint and lacquer systems for different wood industries. Tikkurila cost comparison program calculates costs and helps to find the best solution for your project.

VOC counter for wood finishes

Tikkurila VOC calculation program is based on VOC Directive 1999/13/EC valid in the whole EC area, which is aimed to reduce VOC emissions in different industrial activities. The calculation program is meant to be used as a preliminary mapping of solvent emissions.
