One-component easy to use lacquer

Merit Zircon Extra 25 is a high-quality replacement
product for nitro-cellulose lacquers. The solid content is higher and the chemical resistance significantly better compared to generally used nitro lacquers.

Can be used as a sealer and topcoat

Merit Zircon Extra 25 is an all-round lacquer, with good sanding properties. It can be used as a priming or top lacquer as well.

Merit Zircon Extra 25 is mainly used for:

Stain, lacquer and paint systems for wood industries

Practical coverage depends on the application method, painting conditions and the shape and roughness of the surface to be coated.

Application method

Airless spraying, air assisted airless spraying, conventional spraying and curtain coating.

Application (+23 °C)

Airless spraying application with the viscosity 25–50 s (DIN 4) can be reached with approximately 5–20 % of thinning. Nozzle tip 0.011"–0.015" and the nozzle pressure 120–160 bar. Spray angle shall be chosen according to the shape of the object.

Air assisted airless spraying application with the viscosity 25–50 s (DIN 4) can be reached with approximately 5–20 % of thinning. Nozzle tip 0.011"–0.015" and the nozzle pressure 40–120 bar. Atomising air pressure is recommended to be used with pressure 1–3 bar. Spray angle shall be chosen according to the shape of the object.

Conventional spraying application with the viscosity 25–60 s (DIN 4) can be reached with approximately 0–20 % of thinning. Nozzle tip 1.4–1.8 mm is recommended to be used with pressure 2–3 bar.

Curtain coating with viscosity 35-50 s (DIN4) can be reached with approximately 5–15% thinning by volume. Avoid too high pumping pressure and flowing speed.

APPLICATION DETAILS
Application conditions The surface to be treated has to be clean and dry. During application and drying the temperature of the air, the surface to be treated and the lacquer has to be over 18ºC and the relative humidity of the air below 70%.
Preparation Wood surfaces should be sanded with sandpaper P150–240. Primer surfaces should be sanded with sandpaper P240–600. All sanding dust must be removed before lacquering.
Priming Merit Sealer, Merit Sanding and Merit Zircon Extra 25.
Mixing of components tir the lacquer carefully before use. Thin the lacquer to the viscosity required with Thinner 1035 or 1058.

In case the lacquer mixture is used on the next day, add at least an equal amount of fresh lacquer mixture.

Do not use iron containers as mixing container. Instead use plastic, enamel or acid resistant steel containers.
Cleaning of tools Thinner 1035, 1058,1033 or 1059.
EU VOC 2004/42/EC-limit value he Volatile Organic Compounds amount is 620 g/litre of paint.
Maximum VOC content in ready to use paint (thinned 20 % by volume) is 650 g/l.

HEALTH AND SAFETY LABELLING
according to Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008
Containers are provided with safety labels, which should be observed. Further information about hazardous influences and protection are detailed in individual health and safety data sheets. A health and safety data sheet is available on request from Tikkurila Oyj.
