Temacoat GPL

A two-component, amine-adduct cured epoxy finish. The paint is developed for different types of steelwork and equipment in process industries, etc.

Withstands stresses and heat

Temacoat GPL is used particularly as a finishing coat in epoxy systems for objects exposed to heavy abrasion and chemical attack. The paint withstands immersion in water, oil and dilute solutions of non-oxidizing acids, alkalis and salts. Resists +150°C dry heat.

CE-marked product

Temacoat GPL is suitable for concrete surfaces as e.g. bridge piers, etc. and has CE marking. The paint withstands well chemically active gases and dust, and therefore is used a lot in the wood processing and chemical industries.

DESCRIPTION A two-component, amine-adduct cured epoxy finish.

Used especially as a finishing coat in epoxy systems exposed to heavy abrasion and/or chemical stress. Due to CE marking also suitable for concrete surfaces.

Recommended uses Recommended for bridges, tanks and different types of steelwork and equipment in the wood processing and chemical industries, such as tubular bridges, conveyors, paper machines etc.

Features Withstands +150 ºC dry heat and +60 ºC in immersion. Withstands immersion in dilute solutions of non-oxidizing acids, alkalis and salts. Resists only temporary splashes of oxidizing acids and bleaching solutions. Withstands chemically active gases and dust. Withstands immersion in mineral/vegetable/animal fats and oils.

Drying and recoating times are related to the film thickness, temperature, the relative humidity of the air and ventilation.

Application conditions All surfaces must be clean, dry and free from contamination. The temperature of the ambient air, surface and paint should not fall below +10ºC during application and drying. Relative humidity of the air should not exceed 80% during application and drying. The surface temperature of steel should remain at least 3°C above the dew point.

Good ventilation and sufficient air movement is required in confined areas during application and drying.

Note! There is a natural tendency of this coating to chalk, discolor or yellow unevenly. It is recommended to use polyurethane topcoat when there are high aesthetical requirements on color appearance.
Preparation Primed surfaces: Oil, grease, salt and dirt are removed from the surface by appropriate means. Repair any damage to the primer coat. Note the overcoating time of primer. (ISO 12944-4)

Concrete surfaces: The surface must be dry and at least 4 weeks old. The relative humidity of the concrete should not exceed 97%. Remove any splashes and unevennesses by grinding. Remove laitance and form oil from concrete castings by sanding or blast cleaning. Any cracks, crevices and voids must be repaired with a mixture of Temafloor 200 and fine dry quartz sand.
Priming Temacoat GPL-S Primer, Temacoat GPL-S MIO, Temacoat SPA and Temabond.
Finishing Temacoat GPL.
Painting For airless spraying, the product is thinned approximately 0–10%. Recommended nozzle tip is 0.011"–0.017" and pressure 120–160 bar. Spray angle shall be chosen according to the shape of the object.

For brush application the product should be thinned according to the circumstancies.
Mixing of components First stir base and hardener separately. The correct proportions of base and hardener must be mixed thoroughly before use. Use mechanical mixer for mixing.
Cleaning of tools Thinner 006 1031.
EU VOC 2004/42/EC-limit value The Volatile Organic Compounds amount is 455 g/litre of paint mixture.
VOC content of the paint mixture (thinned 10 % by volume) is 495 g/l.
