PRODUCT DATA SHEET
Merit Jahti 20 - Urethane-alkyd lacquer
|DESCRIPTION||A one-component urethane-alkyd lacquer.|
Excellent resistance to abrasion.
Contains UV-protective agent.
Excellent resistance to all ordinary cleaning detergents, SFS 3755.
Good resistance to solvents, e.g. gasoline, turpentine, white spirit and methylated spirits. Does not resist strong solvents like toluene and its mixtures.
Resists lubricating oils and greases and animal and vegetable fats.
|Recommended uses||Recommended for boats, floors, doors, windows and other wooden surfaces both indoors and outdoors.|
|Emission classification||The emission level of this product fullfils the requirements of E1 calssification for surface treatment materias. The product has been tested according to the standard EN 717-1, and its formaldehyde emission rate is less than 0.124 mg/ m³ air.|
Practical coverage depends on the application method, painting conditions and the shape and roughness of the surface to be coated.
Brush, air-assisted airless spraying and conventional spraying.
For brush application for priming new untreated surfaces thin the lacquer about
20–40% with Thinner 1050. Brush evenly a thin layer 2–3 times. For top lacquering thin the lacquer 0–20 % if necessary. Varnish previously treated surfaces directly with unthinned lacquer 1–2 times. Sand (sandpaper with roughness P240–600) the surface lightly after each coat.
For air–assisted airless spraying, the product is thinned approximately 0–25% to the viscosity 25–50s (DIN 4). Recommended nozzle tip is 0.009"-0.013" and 40–100 bar. Atomising air pressure should be about 1–3 bar. Spray angle shall be chosen according to the shape of the object.
For conventional spraying, the product is thinned approximately 0–25% to the viscosity 25–50s (DIN 4). Recommended nozzle tip is 1.4–1.8 mm and pressure 2–3 bar.
Drying and recoating times are related to the film thickness, temperature, the relative humidity of the air and ventilation.
|Solids volume||Volume solids 44±2 %
Weight solids 52±2 %
|Product code||005 0090|
|Application conditions||The surface to be treated has to be dry i.e. the moisture content of the timber has to be below 20%. During application and drying the temperature of the air has to be at least +5°C and the relative humidity of the air below 80 %.
Do not apply the lacquer under direct sunlight or during moist and cold weather. Schedule varnishing so that the lacquer film has enough time to dry before the evening dew.
|Preparation||New untreated surfaces
Remove dirt and dust.
Surfaces outdoors: prime with Valtti Base Priming Oil.
Finewood surfaces: wash with Thinner 1050.
Previously treated surfaces
Wash the surface with MAALIPESU detergent and rinse thoroughly with water. Remove old loose lacquer with scraper. Sand (sandpaper with roughness P240-600) the whole surface. Remove sanding dust.
|Priming||Merit Jahti 20, Merit Jahti 80 and Valtti Base Priming Oil.
Priming of exterior objects must always be done with Merit Jahti 80.
|Mixing of components||Stir the lacquer carefully before use. Thin the lacquer to the viscosity required with Thinner 1050.|
|Cleaning of tools||Thinner 1050.|
|EU VOC 2004/42/EC-limit value||The Volatile Organic Compounds amount is 440 g/litre of paint.
Maximum VOC content in ready to use paint (thinned 20% by volume) is 500 g/l.
