Unintentional textured pattern left in the paint by the roller.
- Porous, uneven surface.
- Inadequate surface preparation. Surfaces contaminated with dirt or other impurities.
- Poor quality, incorrect roller type, whose edges leave marks.
- Paint applied by roller over only partly dried surfaces.
- Excess use of paint.
- Putting too much pressure on the roller during application.
SolutionHigh-quality paints tend to spread out more evenly due to their levelling properties. Use a quality roller suitable for both the surface and the paint. If the roller edges leave marks, round their shape by cutting off excess material.
Wash the roller before painting and carefully shake out any excess water. Do not let paint build up on roller ends. Apply a suitable Tikkurila undercoat and topcoat, following Tikkurila's recommendations on spread rate. Apply the paint with roller strokes back and forth to produce rows approximately two roller-widths wide. Spread out the fresh paint evenly on the walls with vertical strokes, but on the ceiling with strokes away from the light source or in the direction of the ceiling boards.
