Application conditions
The surface to be painted must be dry and the relative moisture content of wood less than 20 %. During treatment and drying the temperature of the air, surface and product must be at least +5ºC and the relative humidity of the air below 80 %. New surfaces:
Remove dirt, dust and loose material with steel brush or scrubbing brush. Wash down surfaces affected by mould with Tikkurila Mould Removal solution according to instructions. Prime the surface as soon as possible with Valtti Pohjuste or Valtti Akvabase. Protect any plants from splashes of Valtti Pohjuste or Valtti Akvabase.

Surfaces previously treated with wood stain:
Remove any loose material and grey wood fiber by scraper and/or steel brush. Clean the surface and wash down with Mould Removal, if necessary. Prime bare wood with Valtti Pohjuste or Valtti Akvabase. In case of an obvious, possibly glossy film on the surface, remove it or sand it thoroughly.
Reserve enough tinted Valtti Arctic mixed in a single can to avoid possible color differences. Stir Valtti Arctic well before use and frequently during application.
Apply Valtti Arctic continuously and evenly the entire length of the log or few boards at a time to avoid overlaps. Treat the end grains of wood with particular care. Treat the surfaces twice, thin layers on planed and log surfaces. Always use tinted product for new untreated surfaces.
Check the condition of the surface and maintain when necessary, when the product is worn away from the surface. Factors affecting maintenance intervals include the location, compass orientation and weather conditions.

Check the condition of the timber and the functionality of the log structure before applying the finishing coat. See more information at:
Cleaning of tools
Clean tools with soap (or equivalent detergent) and rinse with water. Tikkurila Pensselipesu Tool Cleaner is recommended for removal of hardened wood stain.
Maintenance instructions
After application, the surface must be treated gently as it achieves its final hardness and durability after 4 weeks under normal conditions. Soon after the application the surface can be cleaned gently with a soft brush, damp cloth or mop. Dirty surfaces can be cleaned earliest 1 month after the application with Talon Huoltopesu (1 part of Talon Huoltopesu to 10 parts water). Remove stains and clean very dirty surfaces with a stronger solution (1:1). After washing, rinse the surfaces and allow to dry.
Maintenance treatment
Check the condition of the treated surface and make maintenance treatment when necessary. The maintenance interval is affected by the location, point of compass and weather conditions.
