Rotebro Bridge receives durable anti-corrosion protection
One of the major Tikkurila project in protective coatings of the last years – new traffic bridges in Rotebro, Stockholm.
The Rotebro bridge is located in the Stockholm city area of Sollentuna. This part of Stockholm, which is on the way to Arlanda Airport, is one of the busiest for traffic, being crossed by 95,000 motor vehicles and 600 trains a day.
The Rotebro bridge is an example of brilliant cooperation between well-known companies. Steel sections of the bridge were manufactured at Ruukki’s Yliveska factory in Finland. Trafikverket, which had overall responsibility for the project, placed the order for the bridge’s steel sections and the installation project with NCC Construction Sverige AB, with Ruukki as a subcontractor.
All paintwork for the Rotebro bridge was done by FSP in Yliveska, which has been a partner of Ruukki for many years. Tikkurila is one of the main paint suppliers and a long-term and reliable partner of Finnish Steel Painting (FSP Oy).
The paint system chosen for the bridge is a reliable system which has been used in a number of bridge projects. The durability of the Tikkurila system also complies with the C5-H corrosiveness category of the SILKO standard, which is shown below:
The durability of the steel structures and the protective coatings used are very important to the end result. A preliminary estimate suggests that these bridges can be used for at least the next 120 years, but maintenance painting should be done in 20 years’ time, according to plan.
