Fontefloor EP 100 - Environment- and user-friendly epoxy paint
Fontefloor EP 100
A two-component water-borne
epoxy paint, that can be used for new, old and ealier painted concrete floors and walls. Tintable paint in many colors.
Fontefloor EP 100 is recommended for moderate mechanical and chemical stress in industrial, workshop, storage facilities, as well as hospitals and the pharmaceutical industry for coating of floors. Fontefloor EP 100 is suitable for moist concrete as well.
The product has M1 Building material emission classification for indoor use, and emits extremely low levels of compounds into the environment.
Easy to use
Priming and painting cab be done with the same product. Easy to apply by roller. Water is used for thinning and for cleaning of tools.
Complete water-borne system for concrete floor
Now we are offering complete environmental and user-friendly Fontefloor EP coating system for concrete floors. A significant advantage of this system is that you need only one hardener or the same EP Hardener can be used for all Fontefloor EP products.
Replacing solvent-borne coatings with high-performance water-borne alternatives can offer many advantages:
- Reduced solvent exposure and associated health risks
- Fewer concerns with flammability and the impact on insurance costs
- Easy soap-and-water clean-up
- Less hazardous waste disposal and associated cost
Application instruction of Fontefloor EP water-borne coating system
Overcoating may be carried out 16-24 hour after priming by applying Fontefloor EP 100 thinned 0-30 % with water.
Topcoating with varnish is done with unthinned or 5-10% thinned Fontefloor EP Clear.
Anti-slipping performance of the varnish can be enhanced by adding Tikkurila anti-slip agent. Furthermore, design and mosaic floors can be created.
Fontefloor EP 100 is widely used for:

Fontefloor EP 100 - Water-borne epoxy paint
|DESCRIPTION||A two-component water-borne epoxy paint.|
For painting of new, old and earlier painted concrete surfaces. Also suitable for paiting of concrete walls.
|Recommended uses||Recommended for coating of floors exposed to moderate chemical and mechanical stress in industrial facilities, warehouses, repair shops etc.|
|Features||Fontefloor EP 100 belongs to emission class M1 for building materials. Fulfils the decontamination test requirements (FRP < 15 000) according to the standard ISO 8690:1988 (STUK-YTO-TR-210).|
|Colour Range||RAL, NCS, SSG, BS, MONICOLOR NOVA and SYMPHONY colour cards. AVATINT tinting system.|
|Building material emission class||M1|
Coverage on concrete floors is on the average:
Priming 5–7 m2/l
Finishing 7–10 m2/l
Practical coverage depends on the porosity and evenness of the substrate and on the application method.
|Mixing ratio||Base 3 parts by volume 35V series
Hardener 1 part by volume 008 4571
|Application method||Apply with a rubber trowel and level with a roller.|
|Pot-life (+23°C)||Approx. 50 min after mixing.|
|Drying time at 23°C and 50% relative air humidity||
Dust dry after 6 hours
Recoatable after 16 hours
Fully cured after 7 days
Drying and recoating times are related to the film thickness, temperature, the relative humidity of the air and ventilation.
|Solids volume||approx. 58 %.|
|Density||1.3 kg / l (mixed).|
|Product code||Base paint 35V-s. and hardener 008 4571|
|Application conditions||The relative humidity of the concrete should not exceed 97%. The temperature of the ambient air, surface or coating should not fall below +15ºC during application or drying. Relative humidity of air should not exceed 80 %.|
Remove laitance by power grinding or hydrochloric acid etching. Choose the method best suited for the premises. After grinding remove dust carefully with a vacuum cleaner. Hydrochloric acid etching is carried out with diluted hydrochloric acid (1 part concentrated hydrochloric acid, 4 parts water). Rinse with plenty of water. Dry the floor.
Remove all grease, oil, chemicals and other impurities by Maalipesu detergent. Remove old peeling paint layer by grinding. Choose the method best suited for the premises. Clean out pot-holes removing all loose friable material. Open cracks with e.g. an abrasive tool. Remove loose material and dust.
|Priming||Prime using 25% thinned Fontefloor EP 100, Fontefloor EP Primer or Temafloor 220W. Always add the water/thinner needed to a ready mixture and stir thoroughly. Pour the mixture onto the floor, apply with a rubber trowel and level with a roller.
If necessary, repeat priming to get a non-porous surface. A porous priming coat will result in holes and air bubbles in the finished coating.
|Patching||Fill holes and cracks with a mixture of unthinned Fontefloor EP Primer and dry, clean sand. Mixing ratio e.g. 1 part by volume of Patch pot-holes and cracks with a mixture of unthinned Fontefloor EP Primer and dry, clean sand. Mixing ratio e.g. 1 part by volume of varnish mixture and 1–2 parts by volume of sand of grain size 0.1–0.6 mm. Sand the patched areas before overcoating, if necessary.
Note! Concrete surface should always be primed before patching.
|Finishing||Overcoating should be done not earlier than 16 hrs after the priming. If the primed surface is not overcoated within 48 hrs, it should be abraded. Thin the paint 25% with water. Pour the mixture onto the floor and apply it with a trowel and level with a roller.
The total dry film thickness of the paint film should be approx. 100µm applied in two layers.
Note! Add the remaining mixture to the next batch of the product, do not scrape it out of the container onto the floor.
Applying on walls: For painting of walls thin Fontefloor EP 100 epoxy paint 5–10% with water. Airless spray nozzle tip 0.013" –0.017" and pressure 160–180 bar.
Note! There is a natural tendency of epoxy coatings to chalk and discolor on exterior exposure
|Mixing of components||First stir base and hardener separately. Mix the correct proportions of base and hardener thoroughly (approx. 3 minutes to get homogenous mixture) by using a low speed industrial hand drill with a paddle. Insufficient mixing or incorrect mixing ratio will result in uneven drying of the surface, weaken the properties of the coating and risk the success of the application.|
|Cleaning of tools||Equipment should be cleaned immediately after use before the paint has dried.|
