Flexible film with superior weather resistance

Pinja Top has been developed to withstand the severe conditions of Finnish climate. It forms a flexible film, which lives with the seasons. The water-resistant topcoat however allows the wood to breathe.

Semi-opaque paint

Pinja Top is a semi-transparent acrylate paint.  Suitable for both wooden logs and claddings it shows natural structure of the wood.

Practical coverage depends on the application method, painting conditions and the shape and roughness of the surface to be coated.

Thinner Water
Application method

Airless, air assisted airless and conventional spraying.


Application (+23 °C) 

For airless spraying, the product is thinned approximately 0–10%. Recommended nozzle tip is 0.013"–0.015" and pressure 140–180 bar. Spray angle shall be chosen according to the shape of the object. 


For air–assisted airless spraying, the product is thinned approximately 0–10%. Recommended nozzle tip is 0.013"–0.015" and pressure 40–140 bar. Atomising air pressure should be about 1–3 bar. Spray angle shall be chosen according to the shape of the object.


For conventional spraying, the product is thinned approximately 0–10%. Recommended nozzle tip is 1.6–2.0 mm and pressure 2–3 bar.




Wood contains resin and other colouring extractives especially in knots. Temperature and humidity fluctuations may cause paint coat discolouration in these areas.

Note! Dark shades made from VC-base will dry slower.


Drying and recoating times are related to the film thickness, temperature, the relative humidity of the air and ventilation.

Application conditions The surface to be treated has to be clean and dry. The moisture content of wood has to be below 20%. During application and drying temperature of the air, substrate and paint temperature must be over +10°C and relative humidity of the air below 70%. Good ventilation is also very important.
Preparation Surfaces must be free of dirt, dust and mould.
Priming Recommended primers:
Pinja Pro Primer, Pinja Universal Primer and Pinja Top.
Thinning Water.
Mixing of components Stir the paint carefully before use. Avoid flotation. Thin with water if necessary.
Cleaning of tools Water.
EU VOC 2004/42/EC-limit value The Volatile Organic Compounds amount is 20 g/litre of paint.
Maximum VOC content in ready to use paint (thinned 10 % by volume) is 40 g/l.

Tikkurila VOC calculation program is based on VOC Directive 1999/13/EC valid in the whole EC area, which is aimed to reduce VOC emissions in different industrial activities. The calculation program is meant to be used as a preliminary mapping of solvent emissions.
