PRODUCT DATA SHEET
Merit Topas 50 - Acid-catalyzed lacquer
|DESCRIPTION||A two-component acid-catalyzed lacquer.|
A fast-drying lacquer with good filling properties for indoor use.
|Recommended uses||Recommended for furniture, doors and other wooden interior surfaces.|
|Features||Contains no aromatic solvents.|
|Gloss measurement standard||ISO 2813/60º|
|Emission classification||The emission level of this product fulfils the requirements of E1 classification for surface treatment materials. The product has been tested according to the standard EN 717-1, and its formaldehyde emission rate is less than 0.124 mg/m3 air.|
Practical coverage depends on the application method, painting conditions and the shape and roughness of the surface to be coated.
|Mixing ratio||Lacquer 100 parts by volume 005 2791
Hardener 10 parts by volume 006 2098
|Application method||Airless, air-assisted airless and conventional spraying.|
|Pot-life (+23°C)||3 days|
Stacking temperature below 35 ºC.
Drying and recoating times are related to the film thickness, temperature, the relative humidity of the air and ventilation.
|Solids volume||35±2% by volume, 43±2% by weight|
|Product code||Lacquer 005 2791, hardener 006 2098.|
|Application conditions||The surface to be treated has to be clean and dry. During application and drying the temperature of the air, the surface to be treated and the lacquer has to be over +18ºC and the relative humidity of the air below 70%.|
|Preparation||Wood surfaces should be sanded with sandpaper P150–240. Primer surfaces should be sanded with sandpaper P240–600. All sanding dust must be removed before lacquering.|
|Priming||Merit Sanding and Merit Topas 50.|
|Lacquering||For airless spraying, the product is thinned approximately 5–20% to the viscosity
20–30s (DIN4). Recommended nozzle tip is 0.009"–0.013" and pressure 100–160 bar. Spray angle shall be chosen according to the shape of the object.
For air-assisted airless spraying, the product is thinned approximately 5–20% to the viscosity 20–30s (DIN4). Recommended nozzle tip is 0.009"–0.013" and pressure
40–120 bar. Atomising air pressure should be about 1–3 bar. Spray angle shall be chosen according to the shape of the object.
For conventional spraying, the product is thinned approximately 5–20% to the viscosity 20–30 (DIN4). Recommended nozzle tip is 1.0–1.8 mm and pressure 2–3 bar.
|Mixing of components||Stir the lacquer carefully before use. Add 10 volume % of Hardener 006 2098. Thin the lacquer to the viscosity required with Thinner 1035.
Do not use iron containers as mixing container. Instead use plastic, enamel or acid resistant steel containers.
In case the lacquer mixture is used on the next day, add at least an equal amount of fresh lacquer mixture.
|Cleaning of tools||Thinner 1035 or 1058.|
|EU VOC 2004/42/EC-limit value||The Volatile Organic Compounds amount is 550 g/l of lacquer.
Maximum VOC content in ready to use lacquer (thinned 20 % by volume) is 590 g/l.
|HEALTH AND SAFETY LABELLING|
