Two-component zinc-rich epoxy paint

Temazinc 77 is a epoxy paint containing zinc according to the requirements of ISO 12944-5. Paint system with zinc-rich primer provides the most durable anti-corrosive solution, see functional principles below.

For paint systems in severe environments

Temazinc 77 is a primer for epoxy, polyurethane, acrylic and chlorinated rubber systems used for steel surfaces exposed to harsh climatic condition. Can be used without topcoat.

Mechanism by which zinc-rich primer Temazinc protects steel

The zinc-rich epoxy paint fill any scratches or damage points in the paint layer, preventing direct contact between electrolyte and steel, which would otherwise result in corrosion.
This reaction continues as long as there is enough zinc in the primer.

Anode reaction: Zn -> Zn + 2e
Cathode reaction: H2O + ½O2 + 2e -> 2OH-

DESCRIPTION A two-component, polyamide-cured zinc-rich epoxy paint.
PRODUCT FEATURES Used as a primer in epoxy, polyurethane, acrylic and chlorinated rubber systems for steel surfaces exposed to severe climatic conditions. Can be used without a topcoat on surfaces exposed to weathering.
Recommended uses Recommended for bridges, cranes and steel frameworks as well as steelwork and equipment in the forest and chemical industries, such as tubular bridges, conveyors etc.

Features Offers cathodic protection of steel. The zinc content fulfils the requirements of ISO 12944-5.

Drying and recoating times are related to the film thickness, temperature, the relative humidity of the air and ventilation.

Application conditions All surfaces must be clean, dry and free from contamination. The temperature of the ambient air, surface and paint should not fall below +5ºC during application and drying. Relative humidity of the air should not exceed 80% during application and drying.
The surface temperature of steel should remain at least 3°C above the dew point.
Good ventilation and sufficient air movement is required in confined areas during application and drying.
Preparation Oil, grease, salts and dirt are removed by appropriate means. (ISO 12944-4)

Steel surfaces: Blast clean to grade Sa2½. (ISO 8501-1) In order to get the best performance the surface profile should be medium grit. (ISO 8503-2)
Finishing Temacoat GPL-S Primer, Temacoat GF Primer, Temacoat GPL-S MIO, Temacoat GS 50, Temacoat RM 40, Temacoat HB 30, Temacoat SPA, Temabond, Temachlor 40, Temacryl AR 50 and Temanyl MS Primer.
Painting For airless spraying, the product is thinned depending on the temperature of the components and shape of the object approximately 0–5%. Agitate during application. Recommended nozzle tip is 0.015"–0.021" and pressure 120–180 bar. Spray angle shall be chosen according to the shape of the object.

For brush application the paint should be thinned according to the circumstancies.

Sharp edges, corners, weld seams and other areas difficult to cover properly by spray application should be coated by brush before the spray application.
Mixing of components First stir base and hardener separately. The correct proportions of base and hardener must be mixed thoroughly before use. Use power mixer for mixing. Insufficient mixing or incorrect mixing ratio will result in uneven drying of the surface and weaken the properties of the coating.
Cleaning of tools Thinner 1031.
EU VOC 2004/42/EC-limit value The Volatile Organic Compounds amount is 480 g/litre of paint.
VOC content of the paint mixture (thinned 5% by volume) is 495 g/l.
